Our Committment to Privacy
Brickstream Corporation is 100% committed to protecting the privacy of personal and business information.
The Brickstream System uses video cameras, discreetly located in the ceilings of brick-and-mortar stores, to record where customers go and what they do. Patented image understanding software interprets these video ../images to locate objects (people) in the picture and creates an activity log - data describing the movement of these objects through time and space. For example, object ABC was at coordinate xy at time 0, coordinate x1y1 at time 1, coordinate x2y2 at time 2, and so on. These activity logs are transformed into Brickstream Intelligence - performance metrics that track how effectively a business is serving and marketing to its customers in the store.
Brickstream does not collect or store information about customers that allows identification of individuals. All video is automatically processed by computers to extract activity logs - raw files describing the movement of objects through time and space. No video is viewed by any humans. No individual recognition techniques are ever employed. Typically the video cameras used by the Brickstream System point directly down from the ceiling limiting the opportunity to capture video of individual faces. Finally, all data analysis is done in the aggregate and no information specific to an individual is available.
Note that Brickstream is aware that its data may be combined with other data sources, some of which may contain information about individuals. In those cases, Brickstream defers to the privacy policies of the businesses using the Brickstream System. Nevertheless, Brickstream will take all reasonable steps to insure that its customers are compliant with the five fair information principles outlined by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and described below.
As quoted from the FTC's Web site, "Advances in computer technology have made it possible for detailed information about people to be compiled and shared more easily and cheaply than ever. That's good for society as a whole and individual consumers. For example, it is easier for law enforcement to track down criminals, for banks to prevent fraud, and for consumers to learn about new products and services, allowing them to make better-informed purchasing decisions. At the same time, as personal information becomes more accessible, each of us - companies, associations, government agencies, and consumers - must take precautions to protect against the misuse of that information."
Brickstream is fully committed to the FTC's "fair information practices", which have become the foundation of both on and off-line guidelines and laws on privacy and formed the basis of consumer-focused organizations like the Food Marketing Institute, Better Business Bureau On-Line, the On-Line Privacy Alliance, and TrustE. Brickstream will take all reasonable steps to ensure it and its customers comply with the "five fair information" principles: (1) Notice; (2) Access; (3) Choice; (4) Security; and (5) Enforcement.
